Practice jumping from the start time to the next hour on a time line.
Find the ending time for short activities that cross minute and hour boundaries.
This worksheet has 12 elapsed-time problems and no analog clocks. Each problem names a short activity, shows a start time, and shows how many minutes to add. The child writes the ending time. The minutes to add are different for each problem. When the added minutes pass the end of the hour, the ending hour is the next one. The times stay on a 12-hour clock and do not ask for a.m. or p.m.
The page has a name line and a date line. The answer key lists the 12 ending times. The PDF download is that worksheet and answer key in one free file, with no sign-up. Print worksheet prints the problems on the screen. New questions builds another 12 problems in the browser. The PDF stays the same file.
Start at the given time and count the minutes forward. If you reach :00 before the minutes are used up, move to the next hour and keep counting with the minutes that are left.
Each problem gives a start time and how many minutes to add. The child writes the ending time. When the added minutes cross :00, the hour moves forward and the leftover minutes continue from there. Each problem gives a start time and a duration in minutes.
Practice jumping from the start time to the next hour on a time line.
Write the first jump and subtract it from the total duration before moving on.
Ask for an estimate so an ending time that moves backward is easy to catch.
Add the minutes and write the ending time.
